Élmer Canales Rivera, alias Crook de Hollywood

<p>Since at least 2002, Crook has been one of the main leaders of the Ranfla Nacional de la Mara Salvatrucha-13 in El Salvador. He was one of the key figures in the negotiations with Nayib Bukele's government, which began when Bukele took office as president in June 2019. The Bukele administration illegally released him from maximum-security prison on November 18, 2021, and it is known that, after spending a few days in a luxury apartment in San Salvador, the government gave him a weapon and he was taken by a public official to Guatemala. He then crossed into Mexico illegally, where he was captured on November 7, 2023. He is currently imprisoned in a New York jail awaiting trial.</p>
