The White Flag of Hunger

The white flag, long symbol of ceasefire or truce, has become a distress signal outside the homes of thousands of Salvadorans. Even as the economic devastation of the coronavirus has turned hunger into famine, civil society has devised its own impromptu responses to the white flags.
